Reader Question: Can I have a baby shower for a second child?

Thanks to our readers for some recent questions regarding party and celebration etiquette.

I received a question regarding what some of today’s trends are for baby showers for a second (or more) child. Mainly this reader wanted to know if its overkill to do another one, or improper to have another shower since there is no use for additional baby items.

In my opinion:

I think that it’s really up to the soon to be parents. If you want to have people over to celebrate your new addition, then make the party less about gifts and just have people over for a casual meal. It’s just a way for people to come congratulate you and for you to spend time with everyone pre-baby arrival and all the craziness.

You can make it less games and gifts oriented, perhaps on your invite say “Please no gifts” and just host your family and close friends for a meal.

It’s a happy time in your lives, so a small intimate gathering would be appropriate.

Thanks for your question. Please send any additional questions to blog (at) typeaplanning (dot) com.
